Public Skate
Lace up and glide at Public Skate.  This unstructured skate time is open to all ages and abilities—whether you're stepping on the ice for the first time or just looking to enjoy a relaxed spin around the rink.

• Guidelines to Participate:
  • Public Skate times are intended for unstructured leisure ice experiences. 
  • Children under 8 years of age must be actively supervised by an individual 13 years of age or older on the ice.
  • Children over 8 years of age must be actively supervised by an individual 13 years of age or older, either on the ice or in the arena.
  • Only participants wearing skates and a helmet are allowed on the ice surface.
  • Parents/guardians accompanying their child on the ice must wear skates and a helmet.
  • If not on the ice, parents/guardians are welcome to sit in the stands or in the player’s box.
  • Capacity is limited to 30 skaters and available on a first come, first served basis.

• Equipment Requirements
• Certified hockey helmets (CSA Standard) are mandatory for all skaters.
• Participants must provide their own skates and helmets.
• No sticks or pucks are permitted during Public Skate times.

Seniors Public Skate
Enjoy a relaxed and welcoming ice time just for adults aged 60 and up! Whether you're a seasoned skater or just looking for a gentle glide around the rink, this unstructured skate is a great way to stay active and social. After your skate, join us for complimentary coffee in the Heavy Metal Place Atrium to warm up and connect with your fellow skaters. Coffee will be available until 1:30pm.

Stick  and Puck
Sharpen your skills or enjoy some unstructured ice time with our Stick and Puck sessions! Open to all ages, this program is perfect for practicing skating or working on your hockey/ringette skills using soft pucks, which are provided (hard pucks are not permitted).

• Guidelines to Participate:
  • All skaters must register (either pre-register online or in person) and check in at the Customer Experience Desk upon arrival to pay their fee and receive a wristband. (Activenet link here)
  • Children under 8 years of age must be actively supervised by an individual 13 years of age or older on the ice.
  • Children over 8 years of age must be actively supervised by an individual 13 years of age or older, either on the ice or in the arena.
  • Only participants wearing skates and a helmet are allowed on the ice surface.
  • If not on the ice, parents/guardians are welcome to sit in the stands or in the player’s box.
  • Parents/guardians accompanying their child on the ice must wear skates,  a helmet, and adhere to Equipment Requirements.
  • Capacity is limited to 30 skaters and available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Spots may be given to skaters waiting on site if pre-registered participants do not show up within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time.
  • Slap shots and body contact are not permitted.

• Equipment requirements:
  • Certified hockey helmets (CSA Standard) are mandatory for all skaters.
  • Participants must provide their own skates, helmets, and hockey equipment. 
  • Full equipment is not required for “Stick and Puck”, however, all skaters must wear a helmet and skates.
  • Hockey sticks and ringette sticks are permitted and approved soft pucks are provided by the City of Spruce Grove (hard pucks are not allowed).

Adult Shinny
Drop in for a fun and fast-paced game of Adult Shinny—perfect for players looking to stay active and enjoy some informal hockey. This non-contact, pick-up style program is open to adults (18+), with teams formed on the ice.  Goalies play for free (first come, first served). Please note, Photo ID with date of birth indicated may be requested to confirm age category.

• Guidelines to Participate:
  • All skaters must be 18 years of age or older  to participate in this program.
  • All skaters must register (either pre-register online or in person) and check in at the Customer Experience Desk upon arrival to pay their fee and receive a wristband.
  • Only participants wearing skate, a helmet, and adhering to the Equipment Requirements (indicated below), will be allowed on the ice.
  • Spectators are welcome to sit in the stands.
  • Capacity is limited to 24 skaters and 4 goalies. These spots are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Spots may be given to skaters waiting on site if pre-registered participants do not show up within 15 minutes after the scheduled start time.
  • Slap shots and body contact are not permitted.

  • Full CSA-approved hockey equipment is required. Full hockey equipment is considered: CSA-certified hockey helmet, skates, neck guard, hockey pants, support cup, hockey gloves, shin/elbow/shoulder pads, and regulation hockey stick.
