Transit Fares (Copy)

Arc

Arc is the name of the Edmonton region's smart fare product. It symbolizes creating a path between two points - much like how transit connects us to vital services, supports, and each other.

Transit users in Edmonton, St. Albert, Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan, Leduc, Spruce Grove and Beaumont will all benefit from the same transit payment system.

The system is based on the use of the Arc card that must be tapped when entering and exiting buses and LRT on all seven participating transit systems. Regional fare rates are available online.

To learn more about Arc, or if you have questions or concerns, visit myarc.ca or call the Arc call centre at 780-1-888-302-0001.  You can also submit your questions through Arc's online form.

U-Pass

The Universal Transit Pass, commonly referred to as a U-Pass, is provided, for a fee, to students attending the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, NAIT and NorQuest College. The U-Pass is accepted by Spruce Grove Transit and is fully transferable to all other transit systems in the Capital Region, including Edmonton, Beaumont, Leduc, Strathcona County, Fort Saskatchewan and St. Albert.

The U-Pass program is a partnership of local municipalities, post-secondary institutions and their student governments. Arc U-Pass cards are issued by participating post-secondary institutions. NAIT students can use their One Card to tap on/off buses and the LRT.

Attendants of individuals requiring support

Mandatory attendants of individuals who require support are allowed to ride for free on Spruce Grove Transit when accompanying a person who needs assistance.

Those requiring support must complete the Needs Assessment for Applicants Requiring a Mandatory Attendant while using Local and Commuter Transit.

The applicant will receive a registration card if it is determined that a mandatory attendant is required. When using Spruce Grove Transit, the person requiring support will be required to pay the transit fare and they may be asked to show their registration card, which will allow their attendant to ride for free. This applies to Spruce Grove’s on-demand local service and commuter service.

For more information please call 780-962-7634 ext. 193.

Low Income Transit Pass

The Low Income Transit Pass Program (LITP), funded through a Government of Alberta Grant, helps to support residents to access public transit and connect with their community.

Subsidized rates are offered for both Local and Commuter monthly passes. Further, Newcomers to Canada (who arrived in Canada within the last three months) are eligible for three months of fully subsidized passes (either Local or Commuter passes), after that, individuals will be transitioned to the subsidized rate, as applicable.

To be eligible, applicants’ household income (from Line 15000 on your CRA Notice of Assessment) must not exceed the Low-Income Cut-Off level determined by Statistics Canada +25%.

Applications to access the program can be completed year-round. Proof of address and household income are required.

Applications can be completed with the City’s Community Social Development Department at 414 King Street. Residents of Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Parkland County are eligible to access this program. Questions related to the LITP program can be directed to Community Social Development at 780-962-7618.

The Transit Phone Line hours are:

You can pay with an Arc card, debit/credit, cash

  • For riders using an Arc card:
    • Money is stored on a secure online account, not on the card.
    • We recommend keeping at least a $5 balance in your Arc purse to avoid a low balance warning (yellow) or a deny travel warning (red) near the end of each month.
    • When a riders Arc purse has between $1 and $4 left in the account, a (yellow) low balance warning will appear, even if the monthly cap was reached. To avoid this the rider will need to top-up their purse.
    • When a riders Arc purse has less than $1 left in the account, a (red) deny travel warning will appear, even if the monthly cap has been reached. The Arc card requires a minimum balance of at least $1 in order for the card to validate.
  • For riders using a mobile payment method (debit card, credit card or mobile wallet):
    • There is a preauthorization charge at the beginning of each day. Each trip taken will cost the same fare are the same as an Arc card. Each day the trips taken will accumulate and be deducted from the bank account at the end of the service day. A standard monthly cap applies to all anonymous accounts
  • For riders using cash:
    • No change is provided.

Riders have monthly fare caps. The caps mean riders won't pay more than a maximum each month based on their account profile type and the service type which they travel. Each region sets their own fare caps.

  • Must use the same payment form….
  • Once you reach your monthly fare cap, you ride free for the rest of the month in the region.
  • For Spruce Grove Transit:
    • Once you pay $75 in local or commuter fares, you ride locally for free for the rest of the month.
    • Once you pay $135 in local or commuter fares, you ride local, commuter, and regional transit for free for the rest of the month.
