Policing Committee
The mandate of the Policing Committee is to provide advice to the Officer in Charge (OIC), Council, and Administration on policing matters.
In order to fulfill its mandate, the Committee may:
- Oversee the administration of the Municipal Police Services Agreement;
- Represent the interests and concerns of the public and Council to the OIC;
- Develop a yearly plan of priorities and strategies for municipal policing in consultation with the OIC;
- Develop a Community Safety Plan, including a plan for collaboration between the community and
- community agencies;
- Provide assistance and input within the RCMP selection process for the OIC;
Qualifications
- Resident of the City of Spruce Grove
- Strong interest in community safety and policing services and matters affecting Spruce Grove
- Excellent communication skills
- Enhanced security check as required by the Police Act and Regulations of the Government of Alberta.
Time Commitment
The Policing Committee shall establish the meeting schedule at the inaugural meeting in January 2026.
Committee Composition
The Committee includes three to six public members, one of which shall be a youth member between the ages of 16 and 24, and up to two Council members.
Term of Appointment
Members of the Policing Committee are typically appointed to an initial term of up to three (3) years. Normally, Public Members shall not serve more than nine (9) years.
