Chris Banas

Chris Banas is a lifelong resident of Spruce Grove whose dedication to community service has had a lasting impact on local youth and vulnerable residents. Through years of volunteer leadership, advocacy and program development, he has helped create and sustain initiatives that strengthen our community and improve lives.

Chris Banas graduated from Vanguard College (formerly North West Bible College) in 1997. He has served on staff at Community Church in Spruce Grove for more than 25 years. Beginning his ministry as Youth Pastor from 1997 to 2004, he moved his family to Uganda, where they spent over a year working with Watoto Child Care Ministries.

After returning home in 2006, Chris rejoined Community Church as an Associate Pastor until September 2019. Since then, Chris and his wife, Jenn, have served together as the Lead Pastors of Community Church.

Chris has been a primary catalyst behind the growth and success of the Heroes Program in Spruce Grove. By working closely with the City, local schools, and community partners, he has helped develop and strengthen a program that provides important support and mentorship for local youth.

By bringing Heroes programming directly into schools, Chris makes it easier for students to access support in a place where they already feel comfortable. His willingness to openly share his own experiences has connected strongly with young people, helping them build confidence, resilience, and a positive outlook for their future.

Beyond his work with Heroes, Chris has also been a key leader in the Winter Emergency Response program, which supports unsheltered individuals in our community. Involved since the initial program steering committee, Chris and his church have since taken on responsibility for its day-to-day operations, including employing staff, coordinating volunteers, managing supplies and facilities, and ensuring the program runs smoothly. He has also been instrumental in securing funding and completing grant reporting requirements.

Chris’s leadership, compassion, and dedication continue to have a lasting impact on the people of Spruce Grove. His commitment to serving others makes a difference every day.
