Art Explorer Camps

Unleash your creativity and embark on a summer of artistic discovery! Each week, young artists dive into hands-on projects, guest artist workshops, and inspiring field trips, all designed to spark imagination and bring ideas to life. From painting and sculpting to performing and experimenting, every camp offers a unique creative journey!

Art Explorers Camps provide a fun, safe, and engaging environment where kids can meet new friends, express themselves, and make lasting memories. Each week features exciting themes with a mix of arts and crafts projects, games, and interactive experiences.

Week 1: Colour Splash

📅 July 7 – 11 | Ages 6-12 | Program: 12217
Kick off summer with a burst of colour! Explore different ways to paint, mix, and create as you bring your imagination to life. A special guest artist will lead a hands-on activity, introducing exciting new techniques. Campers will visit the Art Gallery of Alberta for the “New Ways of Painting” workshop, where they’ll experiment with layering, stretching, and building with acrylics to create their own fantasy world. This vibrant and creative camp is perfect for young artists ready to dive into colour!

Week 2: Creative Quest

Embark on an artistic adventure like never before! This week is all about experimentation and discovery, as campers explore a variety of art mediums and techniques—from printmaking and cyanotype to mosaic and mixed media creations. With a special guest artist leading a hands-on activity, and a full-day trip to SNAP Printmaking for a hands-on tote bag printing workshop and gallery and studio tours, this week is packed with creative challenges and artistic fun. Week 3: Sculpting Stars

📅 July 21 – 25 | Ages 6-12 | Program: 12219
Shape, mold, and construct as you explore the amazing world of sculpture! Using a variety of materials—from clay and recycled items to building your own soapbox car—young artists will bring their ideas to life in three dimensions. During the week, campers will set out on a sculpture-themed field trip, touring child-friendly public sculptures at Churchill Square & Centennial Park, followed by a hands-on 3D art activity at Stanley A. Milner Library. Plus, a special hands-on sculpting experience with Clay for Kids will give campers the chance to experiment with professional techniques and materials!

Week 4: Art & Science Explorers

📅 July 28 – Aug 1 | Ages 6-12 | Program: 12220
Where creativity meets curiosity! This exciting camp blends the wonders of art and science, allowing young explorers to experiment with colour, light, and chemical reactions while creating unique, hands-on projects. Campers will dive into fizzing, glowing, and colour-changing artworks, uncover the science behind their creations, and discover how art and chemistry connect in surprising ways. A special highlight of the week is a guest artist-led monotype printmaking workshop, where campers will use gelli plates, leaves, and feathers to explore the beautiful patterns, shapes, and underlying geometry found in nature. The week includes a visit to TELUS World of Science, where interactive exhibits will inspire campers to think, create, and innovate in new ways!

Week 5: Indigenous Art

📅 Aug 5 – 8 (4-day camp) | Ages 6-12 | Program: 12221
Immerse yourself in the rich artistic heritage of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures! This unique camp offers young artists a chance to explore Indigenous storytelling, craftsmanship, and land-based learning through hands-on activities and cultural teachings. Each day highlights a different Indigenous art form, allowing campers to create meaningful pieces inspired by time-honoured techniques and practices. The camp includes a guided outdoor learning experience at Chickakoo Lake, where campers will explore nature and gather materials for a creative project.

Week 6: Architect Academy

From LEGO to creative construction, this camp is all about designing, building, and bringing ideas to life! Campers will explore different building materials, tackle exciting design challenges, and develop problem-solving skills through hands-on projects. To take their skills even further, campers will team up with Young Engineers for two dynamic activities, where they’ll experiment with mechanics and tackle hands-on construction challenges. This camp is a dream come true for future architects and inventors!

Week 7: Musical Theatre

Step into the spotlight and bring a story to life on stage! This immersive camp combines acting, singing, and dancing, as participants work with a guest director to rehearse and perform a play—all in the magical setting of Horizon Stage. From the first rehearsal to the final bow, campers will experience what it’s like to be part of a real production. The week culminates in a special performance, where family and friends can see the magic come to life on stage!

Week 8: Musical Theatre - Take Two!

Spruce Grove, we heard you! Due to popular demand, we’re opening an additional week of Musical Theatre Camp, a brand new opportunity for young performers to shine on stage. No previous participation is required—this camp starts fresh and is open to all experience levels.​ Step into the spotlight and bring a story to life on stage! This immersive camp combines acting, singing, and dancing, as participants work with a guest director to rehearse and perform a play—all in the magical setting of Horizon Stage. Program Staff

All Art Explorer activities and field trips are supervised by City of Spruce Grove Program Staff. Program Staff are certified in Intermediate First Aid and CPR, High Five® Principles of Healthy Child Development, and receive additional City of Spruce Grove training

Inclusion for Campers with Disabilities

We want your child to have the best camp experience. During the registration process, please let us know about any needs that might affect participation. If your child requires additional support beyond what Program Staff can provide, we may ask you to arrange for a support worker or aide to join at camp.

Refund and transfer policy

The full registration fee will be refunded or applied to a transfer up to 14 days prior to the start date of your program. Within 14 days of the program start date, a refund will not be provided.  Refunds may take 5-7 business days to process.
