40th Anniversary Celebration
2026 marks Spruce Grove's 40th anniversary as a city! Back on March 1, 1986, the Town of Spruce Grove officially became the City of Spruce Grove. To celebrate this exciting milestone, we're hosting a family-friendly community party on Sunday, March 1 from 3-7:30 p.m. at Heavy Metal Place and you're invited!
Schedule of events
2:30 p.m. - Park & Ride shuttles begin operating from Fuhr Sports Park to Heavy Metal Place
3:00 p.m. - Opening ceremonies
3:30-6:30 p.m. - Family entertainment and activities inside and outside the building
7:00 p.m. - Fireworks show
7:30 p.m. - Event concludes, last Park & Ride shuttle leaves Heavy Metal Place
What to expect
There are plenty of fun activities and entertainment planned... something for every member of the family!
- Musical entertainment in the Black Box Theatre and roving entertainers
- Public skating in the Thompson Family Arena (4:30-6:30 p.m. - Bring your skates and helmet! Helmets are required for all skaters)
- Tri Area Skate Club performance (5 p.m. - Cst. Brett Ryan Community Arena)
- Horse-drawn carriage rides
- Heritage displays to highlight Spruce Grove's history
- Family entertainment and games inside the Thompson Family Arena
- Birthday cake and hot chocolate (while supplies last)
- Giveaway items (while supplies last)
- Fireworks show (weather dependent)
How to get there
Parking is available on site at Heavy Metal place; however, some events will be taking place outside and a section of the parking lot will be temporarily closed. Free Park & Ride shuttles will be operating between Fuhr Sports Park and Heavy Metal Place. The first shuttle leaves Fuhr Sports Park at 2:30 p.m. and the last shuttle leaves Heavy Metal Place at 7:30 p.m.
