Domestic Violence Prevention Grant

Eligible activities must focus on domestic violence prevention, and support individuals and families impacted by domestic violence and abuse. This may include prevention-focused counselling and support services, education about healthy relationships, and initiatives that promote safety, resilience and well-being.

All applications are assessed based on alignment with Grant objectives and the City's Social Sustainability Plan, demonstrated community need, organizational capacity, anticipated or demonstrated outcomes, collaboration, and responsible use of funding.

For currently funded organizations, the assessment also considers previous performance, continued community need and compliance with funding requirements.

Eligible Expenses: Eligible expenses include staffing, materials and supplies, direct client support, and awareness and marketing activities directly related to the proposed activities. Funding may support one or multiple eligible activities.

Ineligible Expenses: Ineligible expenses include general organizational operating costs not directly attributable to funded activities, significant capital expenditures, municipal property taxes, board or committee payments, fundraising costs, entertainment and hospitality, fines, penalties, legal fees, and expenses incurred before the funding agreement begins.

Budget Submission Requirements: Applicants must provide an itemized budget, including expense justifications and all other funding sources. Organizations completing an Abbreviated Application must submit a separate budget for each of the three funding years.

Funded organizations must submit mid-term and year-end activity reports, along with annual financial reporting, for each funding year.

Financial reporting must include a statement of revenue and expenses specific to the funded activities and the organization's most recent fiscal year-end financial statements, either professionally audited or reviewed and signed by two officers of the organization with signing authority.

The Full Application is required for all applicants unless invited by the City to complete an Abbreviated Application. The Abbreviated Application is available by invitation only to currently funded organizations seeking continued funding for the same activities without substantive changes to their purpose, scope or delivery.

Yes. Currently funded organizations invited to complete an Abbreviated Application will be considered for three-year funding, subject to annual funding conditions.

No. All funding requests are subject to review and approval. Previous funding or an invitation to complete an Abbreviated Application does not guarantee future funding.

Yes. Collaboration is encouraged when it strengthens the delivery or impact of the proposed activities. Applicants should describe the roles and responsibilities of participating organizations and how the collaboration will benefit Spruce Grove residents.

Funded organizations must notify Community Social Development if they anticipate changes to their activities, outcomes or use of funds. Adjustments may be considered, subject to City approval and the terms of the funding agreement. Failure to comply with funding requirements may affect future funding or result in repayment of funds.

Funding may support new or existing activities that meet the Grant's eligibility requirements. Currently funded organizations seeking continued funding for the same activities may be invited to complete an Abbreviated Application. Organizations proposing new activities or substantive changes to currently funded activities must complete a Full Application.

Applicants must explain how Spruce Grove residents will access the proposed activities, particularly if services are delivered outside the City. Organizations should identify how they will measure participation and demonstrate that Spruce Grove residents are benefiting from the funded activities.

Yes. Currently funded organizations may request an increase in funding; however, approval is not guaranteed. Applicants should explain the reason for the increase and demonstrate how the additional funding will support the funded activities. If the request involves substantive changes to the purpose, scope or delivery of the activities, a Full Application may be required.

The Domestic Violence Prevention Grant specifically supports prevention-focused activities that address domestic violence and abuse. The Civic Grant Program supports a broader range of community initiatives, including arts, culture, heritage, recreation and social development.

Organizations may be eligible to apply to both programs for separate activities that meet each grant's eligibility requirements.

The City may be able to provide in-kind access to office or program space to support eligible activities serving Spruce Grove residents, subject to availability and approval.

Community Social Development has access to:

• A counselling office
• A boardroom accommodating approximately 12 people
• A Community Engagement Space accommodating approximately 60 people standing
