City Council recognizes the importance of enhancing community awareness and spirit. Proclamations are a way for Council to highlight various causes or events that positively impact Spruce Grove.

Council evaluates proclamation requests on a framework that ensures consistency and transparency.

International Women's Day Proclamation

March 8, 2024

During the February 26, 2024 Regular Council Meeting, Councillor Gillett proclaimed March 8, 2024 International Women's Day, which was officially proclaimed by the United Nations in 1975.

Anti-Bullying Day (Pink Shirt Day) Proclamation

February 28, 2024

During the February 26, 2024 Regular Council Meeting, Councillor MacDonald proclaimed February 28, 2024 to be Anti-Bullying (Pink Shirt Day), which is an international initiative, started in Canada, to take a stand against all forms of bullying.

During the November 20, 2023 Regular Council Meeting Mayor Jeff Acker proclaimed December 3, 2023 as International Day of Persons with Disabilities  in the City of Spruce Grove.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 

September 30, 2023

During the September 25, 2023 Regular Council meeting, Councillor Oldham proclaimed September 30, 2023 as National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in the City of Spruce Grove, and encouraged citizens to participate in public commemorations that honour past truths, and which promote reconciliation.

Terry Fox Week Proclamation 

September 11-19, 2023

During the September 11, 2023 Regular Council meeting, Councillor Stevenson proclaimed September 11-19, 2023 as Terry Fox Week in the City of Spruce Grove, and encouraged citizens to take note of this special week and to participate in the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

World Suicide Prevention Day Proclamation 

September 10, 2023

During the August 21, 2023 Regular Council Meeting Councillor Stuart Houston proclaimed September 10, 2023 to be World Suicide Prevention Day, which was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention and the World Health Organization to promote awareness of suicide prevention, to reduce the stigma of talking about suicide and accessing treatment, and to recognize that we all have a role to play in preventing suicide.

During the July 17, 2023 Regular Council meeting, Deputy Mayor Gillett proclaimed August 1, 2023 as Emancipation Day.

Green Shirt Day

During the March 28, 2022, Regular Council meeting Mayor Jeff Acker proclaimed April 7, 2022, to be Green Shirt Day , which is in honour of the Logan Boulet Effect in support of organ donor awareness and registration across Canada.
