June is Recreation and Parks Month (JRPM), recognized by the Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA). This year’s theme is all about how parks and recreation play a vital role in building healthy, active, and connected communities. Explore weekly themes, local activities, and a free contest throughout the month.
Week 1: June 1–7
Love Your Parks and Green Spaces
- Discover nature with the Spruce Grove Parks and Trails Map or venture just beyond city limits with Parkland County Trails.
- Try disc golf (bring your own discs) at the 9-hole course at Jubilee Park.
Week 2: June 8–14
Connect with the Land
Recharge in nature at Wagner Natural Area, a stunning protected area just east of Spruce Grove on Hwy 16.
Week 3: June 15–21
Inclusive Recreation - Recreation is for everyone!
- Learn about the Liberty Swing at Jubilee Park – a fully accessible swing for people who use wheelchairs.
- Cohesive Communities - Browse inclusive programs in the Resources Directory
- National Indigenous Peoples Day – Saturday, June 21st. Celebrate at Skydancer Indigenous Cultural Centre, 1–5 p.m. Everyone welcome!

June is Recreation & Parks Month - ARPA Contest
Celebrate JRPM by participating in our contest and suggested activities that are designed to get you, your friends, family, coworkers and community outside and active this June! This year, we are giving away a grand prize to one lucky winner of our JRPM weekly Trivia! *Contest will run from June 1 – 30, 2025. Winners will be contacted directly on social media or by email.
