Land Use and Development Notification Signs
To help improve communication and provide more ways for the community to stay informed, some land use and development applications will require an on-site notification sign. These signs will help inform nearby residents and the surrounding neighbourhood about proposed land use changes or developments, provide opportunities for community input, and share details on how to connect with the applicant and City.
These notification signs are placed on the site of the application. There are two different types of notification signs that may be required:
- A Notice of Application sign outlines the proposed project and provides details on where to find more information. These signs are required to be placed on-site within 14 days of the application being deemed complete to ensure residents are informed early in the planning process, and are to be removed within 30 days of the approval or refusal of the application.
- A Notice of Development Approval sign informs the public about a development permit approval and outlines the appeal timeline. These signs are required to be placed on-site within seven days of the approval of the Development Permit approval and are to be removed within 21 days of the approval.

When are Notice of Development Approval signs required?
A Notice of Development Approval sign is required for development permits for a discretionary use and/or where a variance is granted and where greater community awareness is desired by Administration. The City confirms this type of sign is required and provides a PDF sign template. Applicants are responsible for printing, installing, maintaining and removing the sign in accordance with the City’s instructions and timeline.

Do I need to place a notification sign on site when requesting a re-districting (or rezoning)?
To improve community input, the City may require a notification sign be placed on the application site, to increase transparency and public awareness about proposed land use changes or developments.
