Leaders in Training

Looking for ways to gain valuable work experience? Apply to volunteer as a Leader in Training (LIT) and meet new friends while getting leadership volunteer experience. As a volunteer you will be partnered with Program Leaders to support summer programs, such as Adventure Camp, Art Explorer Camp, and Pop-Up Playground.

  • Youth wishing to participate as a Leader in Training must apply.  Applying to the program does not guarantee that you will be a successful candidate.
  • Applicants must be available for mandatory interview and training / orientation sessions.
  • Participants who complete 35 hours of volunteering will receive a certificate of completion and a reference letter. 
  • Volunteer placements are available throughout July and August and generally take place from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Monday – Friday).

  • Prospective LITs will receive follow up on their application the first week in June.
  • LIT interviews will occur middle of June.

Who Can Apply:

Youth ages 13-17 and have completed Grade 7 who are:

  • Interested in gaining leadership and work experience
  • Able to commit to at least of one full week of camp
  • Available to attend the mandatory training / orientation June 29th and 30th

Program Fee

Registration is required after a successful interview. After a successful interview participants will be sent a link to register and make payment.

$25 (for shirt, HIGH FIVE® Certification, and 2-day training)

Benefits of the Program:

  • A robust two day orientation to prepare LITs for volunteering (including resume building, practicing interview skills, and training on our programs)
  • All participants will receive a certificate of completion indicating the amount of hours volunteered
  • A reference letter once 35 hours achieved (28hrs with 4 day camps)
  • A wrap up event at the end of summer to show volunteer appreciation
  • An opportunity to network and make new friends
  • Improve leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Volunteer placements (July and August)

Leaders in Training Volunteers will assist Program Leaders with children’s programming in Spruce Grove. Below you will find descriptions of each camp/program. Alongside Program Leaders, LIT's will work on goal setting and completing a skills checklist. LIT's will plan and lead an activity for their group with help from their Program Leader. Adventure Camp 
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Registered weekly programs for children ages 6 – 12. A safe, fun way to meet new friends, stay active and make memories! Activities and experiences including biking, swimming, hiking and games.

Arts Explorer Camp
Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Registered camps vary in age and themes. These camps provide a safe, fun way to meet new friends, be creative and make memories! Activities and experiences including arts or craft projects, games and play.

Pop up Playground
A free drop-in program throughout the parks of Spruce Grove in July and August. Designed for kids to attend with friends, parents or caregivers. Each week will feature a different theme with activities, games and crafts.

Please note, LITs will only be assigned to programs where the participants are younger.
