Food Trucks Permits & Licences

Mobile vendors including food trucks can operate in the City of Spruce Grove:

  • On public roads
  • On private property
  • In parks and open spaces

You will find the application requirements and regulating documents for all processes below.

Business licence

All mobile vendors operating within the City of Spruce Grove require a City of Spruce Grove business licence. You can apply for a business licence online through the CityView portal. Mobile vendors will apply for a temporary licence for either 1, 3, or 6-month period, and refer to the Options for Operating below to determine the required documentation.

Then, submit payment based on time period chosen.

Options for operating

Additional approvals are required from the City to operate on City road right of way locations. Apply for a business licence online and upload the following:

  • Agree to mobile vending Terms and Conditions
  • Fire inspection approval from City of Spruce Grove Fire Services or Town of Stony Plain Fire Services
  • Valid food handling permit from Alberta Health Services.
  • The applicant shall provide proof that they carry commercial general liability insurance in the amount of at least $2,000,000 which shall provide coverage to the City as a named insured, in respect of any loss, injury or damage.
  • A waste disposal plan for disposal of garbage, grease and grey water, and recycling.
  • The details regarding the provision of water and power, if applicable.
  • Picture of the Mobile Vending Unit.

Upon payment of the fees as per the Development Fees and Fines Bylaw the planning department will notify you once the application is approved (approx. 5 days after application submission). Please note that additional Terms and Conditions for operating within road right-of-way may be added to the permit.

No additional approvals are required from the City to operate on non-residential private property. Apply for business licence online and agree to mobile vending Terms and Conditions and upload the form.

The following documents must be on-site and made available upon request:

  • City of Spruce Grove business licence
  • Written authorization from the property owner.
  • Fire inspection approval from City of Spruce Grove Fire Services or Town of Stony Plain Fire Services.
  • Valid food handling permit from Alberta Health Services.

Additional approvals are required from the City to operate in City parks. Apply for a business licence online and upload the following:

  • Agree to mobile vending Terms and Conditions.
  • Fire inspection approval from City of Spruce Grove Fire Services or Town of Stony Plain Fire Services.
  • Valid food handling permit from Alberta Health Services.
  • The applicant shall provide proof that they carry commercial general liability insurance in the amount of at least $2,000,000 which shall provide coverage to the City as a named insured, in respect of any loss, injury or damage.
  • A waste disposal plan for disposal of garbage, grease and grey water, and recycling.
  • The details regarding the provision of water and power, if applicable.
  • A criminal record check for any individual operating the Mobile Vending Unit within the Open Space Area.
  • Picture of the Mobile Vending Unit.

The planning department will notify you once the application is approved (approx. 5 days after application submission). Please note that additional Terms and Conditions will be identified on the Open Space permit.

Mobile vendors can also apply for business licences and operating permits on private property.
