Property tax rate approved for 2026; funds help support municipal programs and services
The 2026 municipal property tax levy was approved during the May 11 City Council meeting, coming in lower than originally anticipated due to strong growth in the community.
This year, the tax rate will be 3.99 per cent; however, a property tax bill may differ from that percentage depending on how its assessed value compares to the overall market.
Property tax bills contain two portions:
- Municipal tax – This is used to fund essential local programs and services.
- Non-municipal levies – These include the provincial education tax and the Meridian Housing Foundation. The City does not set or control the amount of these levies; they are collected and passed on to support non-municipal services.
The municipal portion of your property taxes fund things like:
- Maintaining our parks, trails, and green spaces
- Road maintenance and snow removal
- Community events, programs, and social development
- Public transit services
- Municipal enforcement and public safety
- Infrastructure repair and replacement
- Sustainable growth and economic development efforts
