Stronger than anticipated growth in Spruce Grove, and the related revenue, was used to reduce the tax revenue increase from 3.9 per cent, approved by Council in December 2024, to 3.66 per cent, passing welcomed savings on to Spruce Grove taxpayers.

The City of Spruce Grove remains committed to affordability and does not control the non-municipal portion of property taxes, which includes the education levy and the Meridian Housing Foundation. Education taxes are collected by the City on behalf of the Alberta Government and provides Alberta’s education system with a stable and sustainable source of revenue.

The Government of Alberta has adopted a new strategy to structure provincial property taxes to generate tax revenue that is equivalent to one-third of the operating cost for the Ministry of Education by 2026-27. To meet this goal, the province is increasing the provincial tax rate on residential, farmland and non-residential properties in 2025-26. For Spruce Grove residents, this change results in an increase of 4.30 per cent on residential and farmland properties and an increase of 8.46 per cent on non-residential properties in 2025.

Payment options

Property tax payments are due by June 30, 2025. Failure to receive a tax notice does not affect the responsibility to pay taxes by the due date.

There are several ways to pay, including in-person at City Hall, via mail, using the secure drop box at City Hall outside of business hours, or through your financial institution.

Late payments will result in a 4.5 per cent penalty applied to the outstanding balance on the first of July, September and November.

If you haven’t received your notice by the middle of June or if you have any questions about your property taxes, please call 780-962-7634 ext. 119 or email propertytaxes@sprucegrove.org.
