City recognizes Econolube with Community Spirit Award

November 7, 2025

The City of Spruce Grove is pleased to announce Econolube as the recipient of the 2025 Community Spirit Award in recognition of their significant contributions to local groups and causes.

“It is our privilege to recognize Econolube with this year’s Community Spirit Award,” said Mayor Jeff Acker. “Econolube, a successful automotive shop with two Spruce Grove locations owned by Paul Harpe, has a proud legacy dating to 1990. Paul joined his dad, Paul Harpe Sr., as a business partner in 2004. When Paul Sr. retired in 2016, Paul carried forward his vision - growing Econolube while staying rooted in community values.  We are sincerely grateful for their ongoing support of local sports, education, and service organizations.”

Econolube was presented with the award at the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Awards of Distinction on November 6, 2025. The City initiated the Community Spirit Award in 2009 as a way to recognize local businesses that demonstrate outstanding community support and make significant contributions to our municipality.

“We've been fortunate to serve this community for 35 years," said Paul Harpe. "It’s our joy to give back to the people who choose to do business with us by supporting local initiatives that make Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and the surrounding areas amazing communities to be part of. This mindset is something I’ve passed on to our team -- and they share that same excitement to serve and give back."

Just some of the community contributions of Econolube include:

  • Support of the Parkland Food Bank through complimentary regular maintenance on the organization’s cube van and handles major repairs at significantly discounted rates.
  • Support of the Parkland Pregnancy Support Centre which provides necessities, resources, and encouragement to young mothers facing an unplanned pregnancy. Through workplace fundraising initiatives, Paul donates generously annually to help the agency expand its program.
  • Annual financial contribution to the Battle of the Badges hockey game—an event dedicated to raising awareness and support for mental health challenges.

A strong community partner, Paul and his team support many other local organizations through financial support, in-kind contributions, and volunteerism some of which include the Kinnette Christmas Hamper Program, Neighbourlink Parkland, and a variety of local sports and community groups.

As part of this award, Econolube was gifted a framed original painting titled Cottonwoods (Perseverance) by talented local artist Marla Schole. Congratulations on winning the 2025 Community Spirit Award, Econolube!
