Join us for our annual Tree Planting initiative and help nurture new growth throughout Heritage Grove Park and our pathway system. By planting saplings, you will support local biodiversity, enhance our natural spaces, and contribute to a healthier urban forest. It’s a meaningful, hands‑on way to give back to your community while connecting with fellow residents who care about our environment. Create a lasting legacy, one tree at a time!

Registration is required. Space is limited and this activity fills up quickly. Register early to secure your preferred session time. Each session can accommodate up to 40 participants.

How to Register

Join us for Tree Planting on Saturday, May 23, 2026—it’s free to participate, and all you need to do is register ahead of time.

Choose Your Planting Session

Select one of the two available time slots:

  • 10:30–11:30 a.m.
  • 12–1 p.m.

Each session can accommodate up to 40 participants, so register early to secure your preferred time. 

Registering up for the Community Tree Planting: Is a Three-Step Process

  1. First step, complete application form for Tree Planting.
    Note:  If you already have a My Impact profile for another organization, you do not need to register again, login with that same Username and Password.

  2. Second step is to sign up for the Community Clean-Up activity, go to the Opportunities page. Ignore the Filter Activities section and scroll down to the Spruce Up Spruce Grove header and select 2026 Tree Planting.

  3. Third step is to scroll down to the bottom of the next page and under the ACTIONS HEADER and click the + Sign Up button.                   

After You Register

Before your tree planting date, you will receive an email containing important event details and attachments. Please review all provided information.
If you are a group leader, ensure you review all the safety information and share it with your group members prior to the event.

When you arrive, please head to the check‑in table for directions. A “MEET HERE” sign will be placed on or near the table to help you find it easily.

Once everyone has checked in, City of Spruce Grove staff will:

  • Provide safety information, gloves, shovels, seedlings, and any other needed materials.
  • Demonstrate how to plant seedlings and/or saplings.
  • Lead participants to the designated planting areas within Heritage Grove Park.
  • Be available to answer questions and offer assistance.
  • Host a brief debrief after planting.
  • Guide everyone back to the Meet Here table at the end.

Planting time is approximately 30–40 minutes.

Ages

Participants aged 7 and older are welcome to join the tree planting event.

  • Minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is responsible for them during the activity.
  • For children under 12, one responsible adult is required for every four children.

Support

City of Spruce Grove staff will lead a safety briefing, demonstrate planting techniques, supply seedlings or saplings, and offer guidance throughout the activity.

Fitness & Activity Level

The activity ranges from beginner to moderate physical effort and includes walking, bending, and digging with a spade or shovel. To support participants of all abilities:

  • Lightweight saplings (approx. 30 cm) and seedlings (under 1 m) are available.
  • Shale trails adjacent to the planting area provide easy access.

The terrain is natural forest floor but may include natural elements such as vegetation, water, uneven ground, or fallen branches and trunks. Volunteers are encouraged to take breaks as needed and work at their own pace.

All participants must wear sturdy, closed‑toed shoes. For safety reasons, anyone without proper footwear will not be able to participate.

Recommended:

  • Long pants
  • Long‑sleeved shirt or jacket
  • Hat
  • Safety glasses, sunglasses, or prescription glasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray

Will be provided:

  • Orientation/demonstration on how to plant trees
  • Shovels
  • Saplings or seedlings
  • Gloves
  • Water and snacks (while quantities last)

We will plant rain or shine!

However, for everyone’s safety, the planting may be shortened or cancelled if severe weather occurs, including:
  • High wind (gusts over @ 45km/hr.)
  • Lightning or thunderstorms
  • Air Quality Health Index of 7 or higher (often due to wildfire smoke)

Cancellation Notice: 
The City of Spruce Grove reserves the right to modify or cancel the Tree Planting event in the case of inclement weather or any public safety concerns.

Please monitor the City of Spruce Grove social media channels for any cancellation notices.

The location for the Tree Planting activity will be emailed to all registered participants.

Parking is available at the following nearby locations:

  • Christian Fellowship Church: 445 King Street
  • Woodhaven Middle School: 475 King Street
  • Yellowhead Regional Library: 430 King Street
  • Central Park / Agrena: 9 Agrena Road
  • Spruce Grove City Hall: 315 Jespersen Avenue

Washroom facilities are not available at the Tree Planting site, so please plan ahead.

    • There is a portable toilet at Gord Montgomery Field/Diamond by Woodhaven School
  • Central Park (Agrena) –  9 Agrena Road, Spruce Grove
    • There are indoor washrooms available in the Agrena (Sut Barnes Arena door) and there is a portable toilet located in Central Park
