Accessing your bills during a postal strike

May 12, 2025

Postal strikes and negotiations can impact the delivery of mail like property tax notices and utility bills. In the event of a mail disruption, here are options to ensure you can access and pay your bills

Annual property tax notices

Annual property tax notices are mailed by the end of May each year, with payments due no later than June 30. Tax notices can also be accessed through an Online Services account.

If you do not currently have an Online Services account, you can easily register for one online. You can also call 780-962-7634 or email to inquire about your property tax balance or stop by City Hall at 315 Jespersen Avenue during business hours (weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to get a copy of your tax notice.

If postal service is disrupted, please refrain from sending payments through mail. Instead, use another easy way to pay your tax notice:

  • Pre-authorized monthly payments: Pre-authorized payments can be set up by completing a pre-authorized tax payment form and submitting it to City Hall.
  • At your financial institution: Visit your financial institution in person, or follow these steps to register your account for online payments:
    • Visit your banking website or app
    • Locate the option to add a payee for online payments
    • Search the words “Spruce Grove”, which has been shown to return the most consistent result
    • Select “Spruce Grove – Tax”
    • Enter your 6-digit ROLL NUMBER exactly as it appears in the box at the top right of your notice. DO NOT enter your customer number or payment may not be applied to the correct account.
  • In person: Payments can be made at City Hall during business hours (weekdays 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) via cheque, cash, money order, or debit card (please ensure your daily debit transaction limit can process the payment amount). Note that credit cards are not accepted for annual property tax payments.
  • Drop box: Cheques and money orders with remittance slips and your tax roll number clearly labelled can be placed in the secure drop box located at City Hall next to the southeast doors. Please do not deposit cash in the drop box.

Keep in mind that failure to receive a tax notice does not affect your responsibility to pay taxes by the due date. Late payments will result in a 4.5 per cent penalty applied to the outstanding balance on the first of July, September and November.
