Historic rainfall impacts Boundary Road, completion revised to August 2027
Due to the impacts of unprecedented rainfall during spring and summer, Boundary Road’s construction timelines have been revised with completion now scheduled for August 2027.
Crews experienced approximately 40 lost construction days due to the historically wet conditions. The lingering impact to ground water levels, meanwhile, have further affected progress – most notably around the storm sewer crossing beneath the Trans Mountain Pipeline corridor, which now requires additional technical assessment and specialized construction approaches.
"Nobody likes seeing a construction project take longer than planned, including Council, and we understand delays like this can be frustrating for residents, businesses and everyone who travels through the area," said Mayor Jeff Acker. " The important thing is that work is continuing, progress is being made, and we're focused on getting the job done right so residents benefit from this infrastructure for decades to come."
Boundary Road is an important infrastructure investment that will improve connectivity and traffic flow on Spruce Grove's west side. Once complete, the new arterial roadway will provide a direct connection to Highway 16A, supporting existing neighbourhoods, as well as future development and long-term growth. The project also includes significant supporting infrastructure, including water, sanitary and storm sewer systems, streetlights, trails, and other infrastructure needed to support a growing community.
Despite the weather-related setbacks, significant progress continues. By the end of October, the City expects all major watermain and sewer installations to be completed to Highway 16A, along with significant roadway construction north of the future Cambrian Way roundabout. Utility providers will also continue work through the fall and winter where conditions allow.
For further updates, residents can follow project progress through the City's website and official social media channels.
