The City of Spruce Grove participated in a sponsored one-year outdoor air quality monitoring pilot, which collected data from March 5, 2024 to March 24, 2025. Liveable Cities, Innovative Solutions Canada & Environment and Climate Change Canada sponsored many municipalities across Canada, providing them with the air quality sensors and the monitoring for a one-year period at no cost to the municipality.

For the pilot, twenty-six outdoor air quality sensors (SLX-PARTICULATE) were installed by FORTIS on FORTIS owned street lights throughout the City. The sensors recorded fine particulate matter in the air (PM_2.5 and PM₁₀).

At the conclusion of the trial, the City decided to end the pilot and remove the sensors. The completed recorded data measurements from the pilot is available online.
