City of Spruce Grove completes solar panel installation on Protective Services building
The City of Spruce Grove has completed the installation of solar panels on the Protective Services building, located at 36 Fifth Avenue.
The project was supported with a grant of $84,915.12 through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s (MCCAC) Municipal Electricity Generation Program. The MCCAC is a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, the Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Funding for the Municipal Electricity Generation Program was provided by the Government of Alberta.
“It’s exciting to see the addition of solar panels to our Protective Services building, which will support sustainability, improve energy efficiency, and help us reduce long-term operating costs,” said Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker. “I’d like to thank the MCCAC for their support of this important work.”
“Planning ahead matters. Spruce Grove made this building solar-ready, and now they are realizing the benefits of lower energy costs and fewer emissions,” said MCCAC Executive Director Trina Innes. “This shows how thoughtful long-term investments can deliver clear wins for the local community.”
The anticipated lifespan of the solar panels is up to 30 years, with a performance warranty of 25 years. The Protective Services building was built with future solar panel installation in-mind, so additional retrofitting was not required.
