City invests external funding to support infrastructure and services for growing community

The roads people drive on, the pathways they use, and the community supports they depend on are all benefiting from significant grant funding allocated to the City of Spruce Grove.

Each year, the City of Spruce Grove is allocated funds from a variety of provincial and federal funding streams that is invested to enhance the quality of life for residents while reducing the financial burden on taxpayers. These grants play a vital role in helping us deliver infrastructure, services, projects and community programs.

Projects benefiting from external funding this year include roadway improvement projects, snow and ice control, pathway and trail upgrades, social support initiatives and more.

"Making the most of external funding streams is an important part of our commitment to delivering maximum value for our community," says Spruce Grove Mayor Jeff Acker. " Funding allocated from other levels of government is helping us build the infrastructure, services and community supports that residents rely on every day. From safer roads and well-maintained trails to programs that support vulnerable residents and strengthen neighbourhoods, these investments help make life better for the people who call Spruce Grove home."

The City receives funding through a variety of provincial and federal programs, including:

Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) – $5,145,270

The City has been allocated $5.1 million through the Government of Alberta's Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF) to support municipal infrastructure and capital investment projects that help maintain and enhance the roads, equipment, facilities and other assets residents rely on every day. Planned uses of the funding includes:

  • Roadway Projects: $1,600,000
  • Snow and Ice Control (SNIC) Equipment: $787,000
  • Pathways and Trails: $200,000
  • Other Vehicles and Equipment: $390,000

Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) – $2,395,460

The City of has been allocated $2.4 million through the Government of Canada's Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) to support infrastructure projects that strengthen communities, encourage sustainable growth and improve municipal services. This year, $2.16 million of that funding is planned to go towards roadway improvement projects.

Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) – $511,395

The City has been allocated more than $511,000 over three years through the Government of Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) to support our Community Outreach Team, helping connect vulnerable residents with resources and services while deliver programming focused on prevention, intervention and community safety. As the initiative progresses there will be an increased focus on supporting youth at risk of gang involvement through prevention and community-based intervention.
