Grant Funding Received by the City of Spruce Grove
Each year, the City of Spruce Grove is granted funds from a variety of provincial, federal and other external funding streams that we invest to enhance the quality of life for residents while reducing the financial burden on taxpayers. These grants play a vital role in helping us deliver infrastructure, services, projects and community programs.

2026 – Grant funding allocated to the City of Spruce Grove
The City of Spruce Grove has been allocated $5,145,270 for the 2026 year through the Government of Alberta's Local Government Fiscal Framework (LGFF).
The LGFF provides stable and predictable funding to municipalities for infrastructure investments and the delivery of local services. Since replacing the Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI) in 2024, the program has continued to provide important funding that helps communities build and maintain infrastructure that residents rely on every day.
The City uses LGFF funding annually to support eligible capital projects that help build, maintain and enhance municipal infrastructure and assets. Projects identified for 2026 and currently awaiting approval include:
- Roadway Projects: $1,600,000
- Snow and Ice Control (SNIC) Equipment: $787,000
- Pathways and Trails: $200,000
- Other Vehicles and Equipment: $390,000
As an annual grant program, LGFF also provides flexibility for long-term planning. Any funding not spent in 2026 may be carried forward to future years, allowing the City to maximize the benefits of the program and strategically invest in projects that deliver the greatest value to residents.
The City of Spruce Grove has been allocated $2,395,460 for the 2026 through the Government of Canada’s Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF), formerly known as the Canada Community-Building Fund (CCBF).
The BCSF provides municipalities with predictable, long-term, and flexible infrastructure funding that supports strong communities, sustainable growth, and local economic development.
The City uses this funding annually to support eligible capital projects that enhance municipal infrastructure and improve services for residents.
For 2026, Spruce Grove has submitted roadway improvement projects totaling $2.16 million, which are currently awaiting approval.
As an annual funding program, any unspent grant funding may be carried forward to future years, providing the City with flexibility to maximize available funding and ensure investments are made where they will have the greatest impact.
The City of Spruce Grove has been allocated $511,395.42 through the Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) to support initiatives that help prevent and reduce crime and address factors that place individuals at risk of gang involvement.
The BSCF supports municipalities and Indigenous communities in addressing the root causes of gun and gang violence, with a particular focus on supporting youth and vulnerable populations.
Through this funding, Spruce Grove will continue and enhance its Community Outreach Team which provides resource navigation and referrals to individuals who are unsheltered and/or experiencing multiple barriers to wellbeing. As the initiative progresses, there will be an increased focus on supporting youth at risk of gang involvement through prevention and community-based intervention.
The funding agreement runs from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2029, providing $170,465.14 annually for a total of $511,395.42 over three years.
