Youth Integrated Services

Launching in late 2025, the Kickstand - Youth Integrated Services initiative aims to provide timely, accessible supports to local youth and young adults aged 12-25. Supports will be offered in the areas of mental health, addictions, employment, parenting, and other health services. Important to note, this is not a traditional youth centre or drop-in facility, but rather a location that offers a continuum of youth-specific health supports. The City of Spruce Grove is proud to serve as the host and lead agency of this new initiative, which will operate out of the west log cabin at 447 King Street (not to be confused with the Lions Log Cabin, located east of King Street at Central Park).

Considerable work has taken place over the past several months, including essential infrastructure upgrades, remedial work, assessments, and architectural design work to ensure the building is safe, accessible, and welcoming. The City has also been conducting detailed evaluations and analyzing architectural drawings to ensure the space meets the unique needs of youth programming.

At the same time, we've been working to build strong partnership agreements and secure funding to ensure the initiative’s long-term success. Capital funding requirements have been determined and we are finalizing tender packages with interior construction set to begin shortly. We are in the process of hiring and training staff, ensuring that they are in place in the coming weeks to begin their advance work in preparation for opening.

More details will be announced soon, including information about a public open house and information session where residents can see the space firsthand and learn more about the programming and services that will be offered. We are excited to share more information as this project moves forward.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Youth Integrated Services is a service delivery model aimed at providing mental and other health supports for youth and young adults aged 12-25. Kickstand is a funding partner through the Government of Alberta that provides the development and operating funding to run the program.

The west log cabin at 447 King Street (not to be confused with the Lions Log Cabin, east of King Street at Central Park) is a City-owned facility that is well-suited for this type of redevelopment. Its size, central location, and accessibility made it a great fit. Considerable upgrades and design work is making it safe, modern, and accessible for youth and staff alike.

Much of the work that has been taking place over the last several months is not visible from the outside, but it has been critical. We’ve completed infrastructure upgrades, remedial work, safety and accessibility assessments, and architectural design to ensure the space will truly meet the needs of youth programming. While some minor delays occurred, this groundwork was necessary to create a safe, welcoming, and sustainable space to serve residents.

Unlike a traditional youth club or drop-in centre, this facility is specifically focused on providing integrated health and social supports. It will serve as a one-stop location where youth can connect with professionals and get access to services when they need them.

Because Youth Integrated Services is not a drop-in or recreational program, youth will attend the location for scheduled programs and services with trained staff. The building is being purpose-designed for youth supports, not casual loitering. Ongoing supervision and structured programming will help ensure the site is a positive addition to the community.

Although we don't have a confirmed opening date just yet, the facility is expected to be up and running by late 2025. Interior construction is set to begin shortly, with staff being hired and trained in preparation for opening. More details will be announced soon, including a public information night where residents can tour the space, ask questions, and learn more about the services that will be available.
