Snow Heroes

Not all heroes wear capes. Some carry shovels!

Snow Heroes is a community-driven initiative designed to support residents who need a hand keeping their sidewalk and parking pad safe and clear of snow and ice. Residents register to receive a yard sign indicating they are participating in Snow Heroes. They can also choose to have their address added to the online map on this page. Volunteer shovelers (Snow Heroes) then use the map and yard signs to identify locations where help is needed.

It’s all about neighbours helping neighbours

Snow Heroes empowers our community to be a good neighbour; to help and support one another by connecting people who need assistance with those who are willing and able to help. The City facilitates the program by accepting registrations, maintaining this webpage, and providing signage to those who need assistance, but participation is entirely community driven. The City does not match participants with volunteers and registering for the Snow Heroes program does not guarantee that someone will shovel your sidewalk. Property owners are still responsible for meeting all property owner responsibilities related to snow removal as set out in the Traffic Bylaw (see section 8.4 on page 25).

Snow Heroes is for:

  • Residents who are unable to shovel snow due to disability or mobility limitations.
  • Seniors who find snow removal difficult or unsafe.
  • People recovering from surgery or injury that prevents them from shoveling.
  • Residents who are comfortable participating in a community-driven program where assistance is voluntary and not guaranteed.

Snow Heroes is NOT for:

  • People who can shovel but prefer not to.
  • Residents who need snow clearing services while they are away at work or on vacation.
  • Owners of commercial properties, rental properties, or businesses.
  • Residents expecting the City to match, schedule, or assign volunteers on their behalf.
