Construction Projects
Each year the City of Spruce Grove undertakes a range of construction projects to support and enhance community growth, development and safety for both residents and visitors. This can include the regular maintenance or replacement of existing infrastructure, as well as the addition of new features or amenities.
Information about this year's construction projects can be found below, including impacts related to roadways, utilities, buildings, parks and facilities. We understand that construction can impact the community and we thank you for your patience while we complete this work.
Current projects
The Boundary Road project includes the construction of a two-lane arterial road from the existing roundabout at Copperhaven School to Highway 16A. Work includes the construction of three roundabouts, installation of new streetlights, watermains, sanitary sewers and storm sewers. This new arterial roadway at the west end of Spruce Grove, will provide an important connection to Highway 16A.
The project is expected to be completed over two construction seasons with final completion in November 2026. In 2025, Boundary Road was constructed from the roundabout at Copperhaven School to north of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. At times during construction in 2026, Boundary Road will be closed from the north or south. Access to Holy Trinity Catholic Church and adjacent properties will be maintained.

This project includes road restoration and asphalt resurfacing of Century Road from Grove Meadow Drive to the North City Limit, required concrete curb and gutter repairs.
Traffic signal and intersection improvements at the
- Century Road and Westwind intersection,
- Century Road and King's Link intersection.
Remove and replace existing traffic signals at the
- Century Road and Grove Meadow Drive intersection.
Traffic disruption is expected during construction. There will be lane closures and detours in place at times. It is anticipated that final paving work will be done at night.

Project status:

This project rehabilitates aged storm sewer, water network and surface infrastructure. Work includes catch basin repairs, watermain valve replacement, concrete curb and gutter and concrete sidewalk repairs, followed by road restoration and asphalt resurfacing of all roads in the area.
Traffic disruption is anticipated during construction. Access to residential driveways will be maintained as best as possible, with partial road closures anticipated throughout construction.

This project includes full depth pulverizing and paving of existing alleys in the Woodhaven neighbourhood to improve drainage and provide a new base and surface in alleys.
Traffic disruption is expected during construction. Access to alleys during construction will be limited. Waste collection will be maintained with alternate arrangements.

Infrastructure improvements west of the McLeod Avenue and Jennifer Heil Way intersection are needed to accommodate future planning in the area south of the Legacy Park neighbourhood. The planned construction work will improve existing neighbourhood access in Legacy Park and connect municipal services to a portion of the vacant land to the south of Legacy Park.
The south sidewalk west of Jennifer Heil Way on McLeod Avenue and Lamplight Drive will be closed until June 1 to support land development south of the Legacy Park neighbourhood. Pedestrians will still be able to access the area via the north sidewalk on McLeod Avenue and crosswalks will remain accessible during development.
Phase three, 2026:
Work will include road resurfacing along McLeod Avenue west of Jennifer Heil Way. Traffic delays are anticipated.

Project status:
Work ongoing into 2026.
This project includes the installation of new upsized watermains, new fire hydrants, sanitary sewer repairs and lining of existing sanitary sewers within
- South Avenue from Shep Street to the west side of Golden Spike Road,
- and within Diamond Avenue from Golden Spike Road to approx. 250m west.
Traffic disruption is expected during construction. There will be lane closures, but two-way traffic will be maintained as best as possible.

This project will be the installation of a new pressure reducing valve and concrete chamber within Brookwood Drive just west of Century Road. The new valve will help regulate water pressures in the Grove Meadows area.
Traffic disruption is expected during construction. It is possible that there will be need for a temporary full road closure during construction.

The City of Spruce Grove receives its potable (drinkable) water from the Capital Region Parkland Water Services Commission through a watermain that comes from Edmonton and extends to Stony Plain. In 2024, the Commission started upgrades to the watermain to ensure the ability to provide adequate water supply to the growing population in the Parkland area.
In tandem with the Commission project, the City will be undertaking work to construct a new water fill building with connections to two existing reservoirs and connecting to the newly upgraded Commission watermain.
Expected 2026 work includes the commissioning of new fill point building in May 2026.

Work nearing completion with the commissioning of new fill point building in May 2026.
This project will involve construction of a new 2.5m wide asphalt trail on the east side of Jennifer Heil Way from Grove Drive towards Dalton Link. This new trail will provide a pedestrian connection to the commercial area at Dalton Link.

This project will involve
- storm sewer improvements near the King Street and Wellington Crescent intersection,
- watermain construction from Highway 16A towards Agrena Road,
- and sanitary sewer construction from Brookside Avenue south towards Brookwood Drive.
Significant traffic disruption is expected during construction. There will be lane closures and full road closures with detours in place at times. Access to businesses will be maintained as best as possible.

In conjunction with the King Street watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer infrastructure improvements in 2026, the City of Spruce Grove will be working with a consultant on the conceptual design of the King Street surface works. This work will lead into detailed design and construction in 2027. It is expected that the design will include road resurfacing, pedestrian improvements, landscape improvements, intersection/signal improvements and overall streetscape improvements.
The City of Spruce Grove is undertaking a multi-year project to revitalize and enhance Central Park. This project will add new amenities, such as a skate park, pump track, a bike track, a playground, picnic tables and benches, while also retaining key features like the skating oval, splash pad, treed area and log cabin.
In spring 2026, expect minor maintenance and remediation work by contractors.

Project status:
Work is complete.
This project will involve removing and replacing the 19-year-old playground located west of Harvest Ridge Drive, between Hartwick Gate and Hartwick Landing. Work includes the removal of all parts of the existing playground and installation of new play equipment, concrete curbing, protective surfacing and drainage which will bring the playground up to current municipal standards. This removal and replacement falls under the City of Spruce Grove's playground lifecycle program.
To allow construction equipment to access the site, pedestrian trail access may be disrupted along the west side of Harvest Ridge Drive between Hartwick Gate and Grove Drive. Play equipment within Harvest Ridge Park will not be available to residents for the duration of the construction project.

Related projects
The Capital Region Parkland Water Services Commission is upgrading a watermain that runs from Edmonton and extends through Spruce Grove to Stony Plain. Construction work in Spruce Grove will be on South Avenue, Alberta Avenue, and Madison Crescent.
Project timeline:
Spring/summer 2024 and 2025.
Construction adjacent to Madison Crescent is expected to begin June 13 and continue through to mid-July. There will be traffic disruptions through the duration of construction.
- Work on Madison Crescent is now complete.
Construction adjacent to Alberta Avenue is expected to begin mid-July and will continue into the end of August. There will be traffic disruptions through the duration of construction.
- Work on Alberta Avenue is now complete.
Construction on South Avenue will start August 19 and is expected to continue until the end of October. Traffic disruptions, including periodic road and lane closures, with detours are in place for drivers to follow.
Project status:
Work in Spruce Grove expected to continue through to mid-November.
Transportation and Economic Corridors is currently undertaking a functional study of the 22.5 kilometres stretch of Highway 16A between the Anthony Henday and Highway 779. The study is evaluating expanding the highway from two lanes to four lanes in both directions.

Regular maintenance
In addition to larger construction projects, City crews also conduct regular maintenance and repairs on streets and sidewalks throughout the community, including:
- Crack sealing
- Street sweeping
- Line painting
- Pothole repairs
- Asphalt repairs
- Concrete repairs and maintenance
- Traffic light repairs and maintenance
- Drainage maintenance
Reminder: please slow down!
When driving through construction zones, drivers are reminded to slow down, obey all posted speed limits, and watch for portable traffic signs or flag people who may be in place to manage traffic flow. And please give crews room to work so everyone can get home safely at the end of the day.
