Statement by Mayor Jeff Acker on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Mayor Jeff Acker has released the following statement on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“Today is a somber day for Canadians, members of the Commonwealth, and people all around the world.
Canada’s longest-reigning Sovereign, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, has passed away, closing a chapter on a legacy shared by generations of Canadians. Having served for 70 years, she was the only Sovereign many of us have ever known.
On behalf of the City of Spruce Grove and my colleagues on City Council, our deepest condolences go out to His Majesty King Charles III and all members of the Royal Family as they mourn this loss.
We will fondly remember her as a dignified leader and committed public servant.”
Flags at City facilities will be lowered to half-mast for the official 10-day mourning period. On Saturday, Sept. 10, the flags will be raised at 11 a.m. to acknowledge the ascension of His Majesty King Charles III and then returned to half-mast at sunset.
