Spray park and splash pads to reopen; sport fields bookings to resume

June 11, 2020

Following the Province of Alberta’s announcement that it is accelerating the launch of Stage 2 of Alberta’s Relaunch Strategy, and based on those updated guidelines, the City will be reopening several of its facilities as follows:

Spray park and splash pads

  • The City is working to reopen the spray park and splash pads; an official reopening date is still to be determined and will be shared with the community once confirmed.
  • Updated provincial guidelines must be reviewed and protocols put into place to ensure a safe experience for residents and staff.

Organized outdoor sports and team-based recreation

  • Under the updated provincial guidelines “mini leagues” or “bubbles” are permitted to a maximum of 50 people.
  • These groups must remain together and only play each other throughout Stage 2.
  • As a result, bookings will soon be allowed for outdoor sport fields and baseball diamonds; in the meantime these fields will continue to be available for casual, unstructured use.
  • At this time, this does not include Fuhr Sports Park or the Agrena. Reopening of these facilities will be discussed later this summer.
  • City staff will be reaching out to the various leagues and organizations to discuss protocols and expectations, as well as work through the booking process.

Pickleball and Tennis courts

  • All remaining courts will be reopening.

For the time being, the City’s administrative facilities will continue to remain closed to walk-in traffic, but staff are still available to help you.

The City’s top priority continues to be the health and safety of our staff and the community.

Residents are asked to be patient as it will take time to ensure appropriate steps are taken and protocols are in place. As well, depending on provincial guidelines and restrictions, it’s possible that service levels may be different than what was offered prior to the pandemic.

It’s also important to remember there is still a risk of infection of the COVID-19 virus; please continue to use caution and take appropriate measures, including following all public health orders, to minimize the risk of exposure in public settings.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we all work together to keep our community safe and well.
