Residents warned of fraudulent fundraising activities

July 10, 2018

Local residents are being reminded that both Spruce Grove Enforcement Services and Spruce Grove Fire Services do not conduct fundraisers for their organizations.

This reminder comes after several fire departments in Alberta, and their communities, have been the subject of fraudulent fundraising activities.

Individuals have been calling residents of the communities and identifying themselves as a member of the local fire department. These individuals would then advise the resident that they were conducting fundraising efforts for the fire department and seeking cash donations.

“Neither Spruce Grove Enforcement Services or Spruce Grove Fire Services conduct fundraisers in this manner,” says Fire Chief Robert Kosterman. “Occasionally, we do get involved in fundraisers for reputable and legitimate charities, such as the annual rooftop campout for Muscular Dystrophy Canada, but we never ask for donations for our departments.”

If any residents receive a call soliciting donations on behalf of Spruce Grove Enforcement Services or Spruce Grove Fire Services, they are asked to report it to the Spruce Grove RCMP at 780-962-2222.
