Pope Francis' visit – information and traffic impacts

July 18, 2022

Pope Francis will make a pastoral visit to Canada from July 24 to 29, 2022. He is scheduled to be in the Edmonton region from July 24-27, and is expected to travel to Lac Ste. Anne, the site of an annual pilgrimage, on July 26. This visit is expected to draw larger than normal attendance to the pilgrimage.

While the City of Spruce Grove is not involved in hosting the Papal visit, we do expect to see increased activity and traffic within the city during the time Pope Francis is in the area and travelling to Lac Ste. Anne.

Additionally, residents should expect traffic disruptions and delays due to increased traffic and rolling road closures on major highways in the area on July 26, including Highway 16, Highway 43, and Highway 633.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
