Local student named Fire Chief for the Day

7-year-old Jackson Barrett traded in his backpack and school books for a firefighter's uniform and a ride in a pumper truck on November 8, when he was named Fire Chief for the Day. 

Spruce Grove Fire Services firefighters spoke to Jackson's grade 2 class at St. Joseph Catholic School about fire safety and what the job of a firefighter entails, before giving the class a tour of the fire truck.

Chief Jackson also received his own set of bunker gear, a fire helmet, a certificate proclaiming him Fire Chief for the Day and some McDonald's coupons.

Fire Chief for the Day is an annual initiative organized by Spruce Grove Fire Services to promote fire safety and prevention to elementary school students in Spruce Grove.
