A short time ago in a galaxy (not so) far, far, away, a once Jedi—now fallen to the dark side—found himself in Spruce Grove, Alta., a great distance from his home on the Death Star in the Galactic Empire.
On a mission to learn the ways of mankind and systematically spoil their efforts to preserve their planet, Darth Vader rebelled against the local municipal government, focusing on overthrowing Spruce Grove residents’ hard work to trim their trash.
Determined to thwart the community’s efforts, Vader blatantly ignored not only the rules, but every opportunity to reduce his wasteline. He plotted to cross-contaminate the contents of his green organics cart and fill his blue recycling bag with unacceptable materials, such as Styrofoam and plastic bags.
And when waste collection day came, he’d overfill his carts and place them too close together, making it impossible for collection trucks to safely and efficiently pick up his garbage.
Alerted to these actions, the City Alliance is asking residents to join together and strike back against these dark forces that are threatening Spruce Grove’s goal of sending less waste to the landfill.
Corey Levasseur, Jedi Master of Planning and Infrastructure with the Alliance, is urging residents to be diligent in their waste disposal efforts and awaken the Force within them.
“It is crucial that we unite as allies and empower ourselves to sort our waste with success,” Levasseur says, reminding residents to use the City’s online waste sorting tool/app, Trim Your Trash, to help them find out what goes where.
“And always make sure the lids on your carts are fully closed and you leave one metre of space between your carts and blue bags to allow for efficient and effective collection.”
By taking appropriate action, residents can defeat Vader’s efforts and keep Spruce Grove from the dark side.
“Pass on what you have learned,” says Levasseur. “And may the Force be with you.”
