Gain valuable experience - join a non-profit board!

April 4, 2022

Spruce Grove has many volunteer organizations that are working hard to tackle important issues. These organizations are looking for new board members to guide and manage the important work they do. By joining a board, you can make a difference, often without a huge time commitment. Many boards only require a commitment of 2–3 hours/month, but also offer additional opportunities to contribute more time if you are able and interested in doing more.

In addition to contributing to a cause that is important to you and the rewarding feeling of making a difference, volunteering has other more tangible benefits as well. Some of these include:

  • Expanding your professional and peer network and getting your name out there (visibility)
  • Beefing up your resume
    • Gaining experience in a field of interest
    • Expanding your skill sets – learning about governance, business strategies, marketing, recruiting, interacting with community, fundraising, etc.
    • Gaining leadership experience

You do not need prior board member experience to join a board. Board specific training and mentorship can be provided to help you learn your new role.

If you are interested in learning more about the specific opportunities that are available and the role of a board member, contact Social Planning at socialplanning@sprucegrove.org or call 780-962-7583.
