Hailing from Maple Ridge, B.C., Madeline Merlo is an award-winning country artist with four Top 15 singles under her belt. She has opened for Keith Urban, Dean Brody and Paul Brandt, toured across Canada from Prince Edward Island to Vancouver, and performed in Nashville, Tennessee. Now she is looking forward to coming to Spruce Grove on July 1 to headline the City’s Canada Day Celebration in Jubilee Park.
Called “one of the biggest rising stars to watch”, Madeline won the Canadian Country Music Rising Star Award in 2015 and was nominated for the CCMA Female Artist of the Year in 2017. She also won British Columbia Country Music’s Award for Female Artist of the Year in 2015 and 2016.
Madeline has released a series of successful singles, including “Whatcha Wanna Do About It”, “War Paint”, which was the #1 Most Added country song in Canada in its debut week, and the soulful breakup ballad “Over & Over”. All three songs were featured on her 2016 debut album, Free Soul. Madeline’s 2017 single “Motel Flamingo” is a vibrant, upbeat track that flew up the charts and landed in the Top 10 on Canadian Country Radio. She recently surpassed more than 4 million streams of her hits on Spotify – from a global streaming audience that covers 61 countries.
Also a talented actress, Madeline played the lead role of a young woman trying to make it as a country singer in the film Country Crush in 2017. The movie also starred Jana Kramer from One Tree Hill and Gene Simmons’ daughter Sophie Tweed-Simmons. A champion of local artisans with a passion for promoting new designers, Madeline made US Weekly’s List of best-dressed artists at the 2017 Country Music Awards. Her free-spirited personal style is as unique as her sound.
As someone who has always had eclectic taste, you’ll hear the influence of classic country artists like Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline, R&B greats Etta James and Billie Holiday, and modern superstars such as Miranda Lambert in Madeline’s music. After a recent move to Nashville, she is currently collaborating with some of the biggest names in country on new music.
Madeline Merlo will perform from 9:45-11 p.m. on the Mainstage at the 2018 Spruce Grove Canada Day Celebration. Horizon Stage is pleased to present Madeline in Jubilee Park on July 1.
