Coronavirus (COVID-19) update – March 16, 2020

March 16, 2020

There were some significant developments over the weekend regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19). The Spruce Grove Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has made some important decisions, which are outlined below:

Preventing the spread

The health and safety of our staff and our community is our top priority, and we are committed to taking the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the virus, while also ensuring that we continue providing essential services to our residents.

We continue to ask the community and our staff to practice good health habits to prevent the spread of germs, such as:

  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Do not share water bottles or similar containers.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Routinely clean frequently touched surfaces and objects.
  • Stay home if you are sick.

Contact your healthcare provider/Health Link 811 if you have further questions or concerns about the virus.

As announced last week, we have cancelled all events held within the next 30 days at Horizon Stage and all City-owned recreation facilities are closed. We have also suspended the rentals of all City-owned facilities.

Additional closures include the Spruce Grove Public Library and the TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre , as well as all schools and daycares .

We recognize this is a challenging time for many of our residents and we would like to thank you for doing your part to keep our community well.
