City of Spruce Grove - Volunteer Board And Committee Opportunities

The City of Spruce Grove invites residents to apply for the following volunteer boards & committee positions: 

Spruce Grove Public Library – Board Member (3 positions)

The City of Spruce Grove is seeking individuals passionate about public library service.  A library board member is a trustee. A library operates for the benefit of the public and a library trustee is therefore required to act in the public interest. Carrying out this duty requires the library trustee to help develop and deliver good library service that is responsive to the needs of the community by:

Advocating on behalf of the library and communicating the value of public libraries to funders, decision makers, and the general public
Ensuring sustainable operations
Providing governance and oversight

TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre – Board Member (1 position)

The TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre is committed to bringing community together to inspire quality life experiences and healthy, active living.  The Board has the authority and mandate to provide leadership in the business of governing and managing all corporate and operational responsibilities of the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre, and sets overall policies and provides direction for the organization.

The TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre Board of Directors is comprised of public and elected officials which are appointed from each of the respective municipalities – the City of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain and Parkland County. 

Community Road Safety Advisory Committee (2 positions)

The mandate of the advisory committee is to provide advice and recommendations to Council for all methods of transportation, including pedestrian, cyclist, and vehicular traffic, including but not limited to Automated Traffic Enforcement.  The Committee assists Council and Administration to create strategies, programs, and policies to improve road safety.

Qualifications and Commitment

  • Applicants must be residents of the City of Spruce Grove
  • Serve at least one three-year term
  • Attendance at regular meetings and additional committee work as necessary
  • Attendance at various functions and professional development
  • Previous board experience an asset
  • Policy development skills/experience
  • Desire to make a difference in the community
  • Interest and passion for library service, health, recreation, and wellness, and/or community safety
