Mayor Stuart Houston, with the consent of City Council, is proclaiming April 7, 2019 as “Green Shirt Day” in Spruce Grove.
The Green Shirt Day initiative was started by the family of late Humboldt Bronco’s player Logan Boulet. People across Canada are being encouraged to wear green to honour Boulet’s legacy and help raise organ donor awareness and registration.
Boulet was seriously injured on the April 6, 2018, Humboldt Broncos bus crash and succumbed to his injures the next day. Boulet had previously shared his wishes about organ donation with his family and, as a result, his parents offered to donate his organs. Boulet’s decision and his parents’ actions saved the lives of six people.
Spruce Grove has a special connection to the Broncos team, as two former Spruce Grove Saints, Conner Lukan and Parker Tobin, were playing for the Broncos and were both killed in the crash.
On April 7 Spruce Grove residents are encouraged to wear green to remember the Humboldt bus tragedy and in honour of the Logan Boulet Effect. For more information visit www.greenshirtday.ca.
