Register as a Third Party Advertiser

Third Party Advertisers must register with the City of Spruce Grove if they have incurred (or plan to incur) expenses of at least $1,000 for election advertising or have accepted (or plan to accept) advertising contributions of at least $1,000.

Eligibility 

To be eligible to register as a Third Party Advertiser, you must be one of the following:

  • An individual who resides in Alberta.
  • A group of which all members reside in Alberta.
  • A corporation that carries out business in Alberta.
  • An Alberta trade union or Alberta employee organization.
Third parties ineligible to register are:
  1. A corporation that does not carry on business in Alberta.
  2. An individual who is not ordinarily a resident in Alberta.
  3. A trade union or employee organization that is not an Alberta trade union or Alberta employee organization.
  4. A group where any member of the group is ineligible under a), b), or c).
  5. A registered charity.
  6. A prohibited corporation as defined in the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act.

Third Party Advertisers must notify the City of Spruce Grove by email elections@sprucegrove.org of any changes to the required information within 30 days after the change.

Name restrictions

A Third Party Advertiser will not be allowed to register if its proposed name or abbreviations of the name:

  • Resembles the name or nickname of a candidate registered in the City of Spruce Grove or anywhere in the province.
  • Resembles the name of a registered Third Party Advertiser whose registration was cancelled or changed since the last election.
How to Register as a Third Party Advertiser

The completed Third Party Registration Form can be submitted using one of the following methods:

  • schedule an appointment with the Returning Officer by emailing at elections@sprucegrove.org  or calling 780-962-7634 Ext. 425
  • by email at elections@sprucegrove.org
  • by dropping them off in the secure dropbox beside the east doors of City Hall (315 Jespersen Avenue), or
  • by mail or courier to the City of Spruce Grove (c/o Returning Officer, 315 Jespersen Avenue, Spruce Grove, Alberta T7X 3E8)
Advertising in more than 10 local jurisdictions

If a third party is interested in advertising in more than 10 local jurisdictions, they must contact Municipal Affairs’ Advisory services by email to ma.advisory@gov.ab.ca to register with the Registrar for Third Party Advertising.
