Regular City Council Meeting
Members of the Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain - RCMP Musical Ride Committee came before Council to thank them for their financial contribution to the successful RCMP Musical Ride held in Stony Plain on September 1, 2019 and to present Council with a gift of appreciation for their support.
Lennie Richer, General Manager of the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre provided Council with an update on the 2020 Operational and Capital Budget.
Public Question and Answer Period
One member of the public asked a question of Council during Public Question and Answer Period.
Councillor Statements and Updates
- Councillor McKenzie provided Council with an updated on a reconciliation circle ceremony that she attended recently and presented Council with a smudge pot that was given to the City at the event.
- Mayor Houston provided Council with a brief report on the Mid-sized Cities Mayors’ and Chief Administration Officers’ Caucus he recently attended in Lethbridge, Alberta.
- Mayor Houston presented Councillor Oldham and Councillor Stevenson with commemorative photos of their participation in the 2019 Amazing Race Spruce Grove held on September 14, 2019.
Council gave third reading to Bylaw C-1091-19, as part of the review process on agenda and meeting management, which includes an amendment to C-724-09, implementing time limits for individuals and groups presenting to Council. The bylaw was further amended to say: Speakers will not be allowed to discuss items that are before the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board or the Assessment Review Board, or any issue currently being dealt with in a statutory public hearing.
Council approved that notice be given to ATCO Gas of a franchise fee increase from 25% to 30% effective January 1, 2020.
