Councillor Swearing In Ceremony

Jeff Acker was sworn in as the newly elected councillor for the City of Spruce Grove.

Mayor Houston introduced Simon Farbrother as the new city manager for the City of Spruce Grove and thanked David Wolanski for his contributions to the organization as the interim city manager.

Outstanding Achievement Presentation to Alicia Plosz

Mrs. Alicia Plosz was presented with a Certificate of Outstanding Achievement for her Mrs. Globe Curve' 2019 Award at the Mrs. Globe Curve' International held in Palm Springs, California on June 15, 2019.

Steve Arsenault - 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games Hockey Jersey Presentation

Steve Arsenault presented Mayor Houston and Council with his signed 2018 PyeongChang Paralympic Winter Games Hockey jersey for display purposes.

Notice of Motion – Conversion Therapy Ban

Councillor Erin Stevenson brought forward a Notice of Motion regarding the potential to ban the practice of conversion therapy in Spruce Grove.

Bylaw C-1085-19 – Borrowing Bylaw – Storm System Update 2019 – Second and Third Readings

Council gave second and third readings to Bylaw C-1085-19, Borrowing Bylaw – Storm System Update 2019. This bylaw is to borrow up to $2,200,000 for storm system updates originally approved in the 2019 – 2021 Corporate Plan.

Bylaw C-1080-19 – Land Use Bylaw Amendment – 17 Golden Spike Road – First Reading

Council gave first reading to Bylaw C-1080-19, a Land Use Bylaw amendment proposing to redistrict land within the East Campsite Business Park Area Structure Plan from Urban Reserve District to General Industrial District. The bylaw will return to Council for a second and third reading at a later date.

Bylaw C-1072-19 – Parental Leave for Councillors Bylaw – First Reading

Council gave first reading to Bylaw C-1072-19, following the Council Remuneration Task Force's recommendation to have Administration prepare a Parental Leave for Elected Officials Bylaw for Council's consideration. The bylaw will return to Council for a second and third reading at a later date.

Kinsmen Club of Stony Plain – RCMP Musical Ride

Council approved that $5,000 be allocated from Council contingency for the RCMP Musical Ride tour in Stony Plain on September 1, 2019.

RCMP School Resource Officer

Administration provided Council with an update on the RCMP School Resource Officer position that is jointly funded by the City of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain, Parkland County and Parkland School Division.
