September 2, 2014 Transit Service Changes

Changes to Spruce Grove’s transit system for September 2, 2014 were approved by Council at the May 26, 2014 meeting. The details of these changes are outlined below:

Route/Schedule Changes

  • Direct service to the University of Alberta will be discontinued. Riders will need to use the LRT network to access this location in the future.
  • Schedules were adjusted slightly to incorporate better on-time performance and allow time for U of A riders to transfer from the LRT network.
  • Schedules now include a midday route traveling from downtown Edmonton to Spruce Grove at 1:30 pm.

Discontinuing the service to the University of Alberta creates a more efficient transit system. Savings from these changes will be reinvested into a subsidized integrated pass and a midday service. This change also makes it easier for the City to increase the number of trips in the future. In addition to a shorter route, buses can now make a second trip so additional buses are not required from ETS (access to more buses is not guaranteed).

Fare Changes

  • Two new passes will be available to Spruce Grove residents only (proof required)
    • Student pass = $95
    • Spruce Grove/ETS integrated pass = $165
  • The regular commuter pass will remain at $130 and the cash fare at $6 (all users)

The City’s transit system is subsidized by Spruce Grove taxpayers. Because of this, the Student Pass and Integrated Pass are only available to residents of Spruce Grove.
