Fire Pit Guidelines

Fire pit to be constructed of non-combustible material. Recommend firebricks or blocks to form an enclosed burning area and set on patio bricks, sidewalk blocks or similar material. Commercial type burning appliance may be acceptable to the Authority having Jurisdiction.

2. Size

Top area up to 30” by 30” (76 cm.) or up to 30” (76 cm.) in diameter. The structure shall be a minimum if 12” (30 cm.) and cannot exceed 3 feet (92 cm.) in height measuring from ground level to the top of the screen.

Build 10 feet (3 meters) from any property lines, fences, or structures. Consider how close you install fire pits to trees; trees may be damaged by heat or become a fire hazard.

4. Fuel

Burn clean wood only (no household, garden or yard waste).

5. Screen

Use 1/2-inch (13 mm.) metal mesh screen to cover the top opening of the fire pit.

Consider weather conditions when burning. May cause problems for neighbours; be considerate of your neighbours

7. Water supply

Ensure there is a garden hose or bucket of water nearby.

8. Permit

One time permit required for each owner/tenant, at no cost.
