What Every Non-Profit Board Member Needs to Know, Do and Avoid (10539)

Program description:  Clarify your board financial governance roles and responsibilities. Its essential to know for those involved in non profit organizations to know what their financial statements are trying to tell them and how to use that information to make sound decisions. Internal controls an organization should have in place to protect itself, as well as the potential consequences of not having sufficient controls.

Program description: Come find out what is new with the Government of Alberta: (CFEP) Community Facility Enhancement Program & (CIP) Community Initiative Program. External Presenter will be staff from the Government of Alberta Culture and Tourism Ministry. Municipal staff will be also speaking on municipal funding and volunteering opportunities:

  3. Legislation affecting records for non-profits: PIPEDA, Societies Ac, Statue of Limitations, Health Information Act.

  6. Electronic or physical
  7. Additional education in the field

Communication Skills: Why didn't you say so? (10543)

When: Saturday, November 18, 2017 9:00 a.m.  - 3:00 p.m.

Where: Border Paving Athletic Centre External

Program description: How to say what you need to say and listen for what you need to hear in any circumstance.
Everyone who has been on the planet a while knows how to speak and listen. Some even know how to get listened to. This fun work shop is aimed at practicing skills to improve your communication skills so that you can get what you need, make your point and still remain friendly. Whether you are sitting on a board, dealing with family members or just meeting new friends at the coffee shop you will come away with skills and strategies for making every conversation a winning conversation. You will learn to listen first, to speak deliberately, to choose your language to match the speakers so that they can better understand your perspective. Many simple and effective told will be shared and practice.
Dr. Nancy Love has worked in high conflict situations and trained hundreds of people to use her conversation and language skills to create sustainable outcomes in a variety of situations.

How to Register

You can register by one of the following methods:

Registration deadline for workshops is at 4:30 p.m. eight days prior to each scheduled workshops date. *** unless stated otherwise***

Accepted methods of payment include Visa, MasterCard, debit, or cheques (made payable to the City of Spruce Grove). Note: Registration occurs upon receipt of full payment and any online registrations must be paid online using Visa or MasterCard.

Cancellations and requests for refund must be received in writing to recreation@sprucegrove.org, by fax at 780-962-2526, or dropped off in person to Recreation Services Office, 2nd floor Border Paving Athletic Centre. Refund requests must be received by 4:30 p.m. at least 14 days prior to the scheduled workshop date. Upon receipt of cancellation/refund notice, the full registration fee will be refunded. Should you fail to provide the required notice, the City shall retain the entire program fee. If you register for a workshop but do not attend, and no request for refund was received by the deadline date, no refund will be given.

Workshops may be cancelled seven days in advance of their scheduled date if registration is low. Refunds will be given for cancelled workshops.
