Household Hazardous Waste

Many common household products contain hazardous chemicals. This includes flammable, combustible, corrosive and toxic products. Once released into the environment, these substances may pose a serious threat to living organisms. Small quantities can accumulate over time to reach dangerous levels and contaminate the air, water, and/or soil.

Some ways that HHW finds its way into the environment are:

  • Down sewers (catch basins)
  • Down drains
  • Dumped onto the ground or in to ditches
  • Burning
  • Put into regular garbage

Accepted HHW products should be properly disposed at the City’s Eco Centre.
