Spruce Grove City Council approved the formation of a task force External to review the status of the office of the mayor during the Dec. 12, 2016, council meeting.

Currently, the mayor's position for the City of Spruce Grove is considered to be part-time in time commitment and remuneration. The recommendation to review the status of the mayor's position came out of the 2015 remuneration review.

The Task Force on Mayoralty Status will consider whether a move to a full-time mayor for the upcoming 2017-2021 council term is warranted for the City. If the task force determines a full-time mayor is warranted, it will also be required to provide a recommendation for compensation.

The task force will be composed of three to five public members who will conduct the review in the spring, with recommendations to be provided to council in June 2017.

On June 19, 2017, the 2017 Mayoralty Status Revew Report PDF was presented to council.
