The City prepared an Energy Management Plan and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Strategy  in 2004 as part of the Partners for Climate Protection  program. This plan commits Spruce Grove to a 20 per cent reduction of corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and a 6 per cent community reduction below 1996 levels by 2013. Included in this plan are the actual corporate and community emissions as well as actions plans for 2004-2006 for both categories.

Action items related to this strategy include:

• High efficiency LEDs lights for all traffic signals
• Compost program
• Commuter transit service
• Closing of inefficient facility (pool)
• Energy related rebate programs
