From the Ground Up

On Sept. 20, 2014, members of the community, including the 2nd Spruce Grove LDS Scouts and the Grove Grizzlies Junior Forest Wardens, gathered to plant shrubs on the grounds near Greystone Centennial Middle School. The shrubs were the finishing touch on a landscaping plan that included mature trees and semi-naturalized shrub beds.

The gathering was made possible thanks to a grant received from the CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up program. Spruce Grove was one of thirty communities selected from a group of nearly 200 and was awarded $20,000 for its tree planting project.

From the Ground Up is sponsored by CN EcoConnexions in partnership with Tree Canada and Communities in Bloom. The annual grant competition helps municipalities enrich local green spaces and promote their environmental, health and social benefits to residents.
