New Spruce Grove transit commuter route enhances service in the region

Spruce Grove launches Route 562; Parkland County introduces Acheson shuttle service

Transit riders in the region will see two service enhancements as Spruce Grove's newest commuter transit route - Route 562 - and Parkland County's Acheson shuttle service launch starting Monday, February 13.

Route 562 will travel around Spruce Grove on Century Road, Grove Drive, Jennifer Heil Way and McLeod Avenue, and will provide service to West Edmonton Mall, the South Campus/Fort Edmonton Park LRT station and the Acheson Industrial Area (south).

The new route will run during peak morning and afternoon hours from Monday to Friday. All fare products, including the U-Pass, will be accepted on the new route.

"We recognize the demand on our transit service as Spruce Grove continues to grow," said Patrick Inglis, Senior Sustainability Advisor with the City. "Route 562 will alleviate some of the pressure on Route 560 and will thereby contribute to the overall enhancement of the Spruce Grove commuter transit service."

As part of that service, both Route 560 and Route 562 will share some existing bus stops, but each route will also have their own separate stops.

Transit users are strongly encouraged to double check the route number(s) at their stop and on the bus before they board to ensure they are at the correct stop and getting on the right bus.

In conjunction with Spruce Grove's new route, Parkland County is pleased to introduce a shuttle service within Acheson. From Monday to Friday, the shuttle service will allow transit riders on Route 561 and Route 562 to get off the bus in Acheson and be transported to businesses in Acheson Zones 1 to 5.

"We're excited to launch phase 2 of the Acheson Transit Service Pilot Project with a second bus stop in Zone 3 of our Acheson Business Area," said Erin Felker, Transit Coordinator for Parkland County. "We are also adding a shuttle in Acheson which will be key to the success of our pilot transit system."

In the morning, riders will be able to board the shuttle bus where Route 561 and Route 562 stop, and tell the driver which business they are travelling to. In the afternoon, shuttle rides from businesses back to the bus stops must be pre-booked before 3 p.m.

Use of the Acheson shuttle service will be included in the main transit fare.

To book an afternoon shuttle ride, use the TransLoc app, which is available for download on both iOS and Android devices, or call Southland Transportation at 780-455-8222. Riders are asked to identify at which bus stop and time they wish to catch the bus to Edmonton.

Spruce Grove's transit system is operated through a contract with the Edmonton Transit Service (ETS). For more information on Route 562 and Spruce Grove's transit service External.
