A non-profit service that provides door-to-door public transportation for local seniors and those with mobility challenges has added a new set of wheels to its fleet.

Specialized Transit Service (STS) received a new 22-passenger van this week that can also accommodate a maximum of four wheelchairs.

“This new van will allow STS to continue providing a valued and necessary service to our residents,” said Mayor Stuart Houston. “City council is pleased to be able to support our community by offering this transportation option.”

The new van is replacing an older van that is retiring from service as part of a planned and scheduled lifecycle program. In addition to this large van, STS also operates two smaller vans that can accommodate individuals and small groups. All three vehicles are wheelchair accessible.

STS is available for use by residents of the City of Spruce Grove, Parkland Village and defined limits of Parkland County. The service is available for seniors ages 55 and up, as well as people with disabilities who need assistance to be mobile.

Services include transportation for medical, business, personal or recreational group trips. Special event trips are also planned.

STS vans operate Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monthly schedules are posted on the City’s website and in the Examiner.
