Mayor delivers annual State of the City address

Speech highlights accomplishments and future plans for Spruce Grove

Spruce Grove Mayor Stuart Houston shared accomplishments from 2015, including record breaking growth and welcoming a new NAIT campus to the community, in his annual State of the City address on Tuesday, March 8.

Delivered during the Spruce Grove Chamber of Commerce's State of the Region Address, Mayor Houston also provided a snapshot of what is coming in 2016, including work on the new integrated RCMP facility and a new K-9 school opening this fall.

Other highlights from the address are:

  • An all-time high one-year population gain of 8.5 per cent in 2015;
  • Being named by MoneySense magazine as one of the top 10 best places in Canada to raise a family;
  • Record breaking commercial improvements building permit value of $7.8 million in 2015;
  • Total building permit value of $189 million in 2015, which is the third best year in the City's history;
  • Hosting the Stage 5 finish of the Tour of Alberta; and
  • The grand opening of the new Public Works Facility and completion of the Border Paving Athletic Centre.
