Spray park coming to Jubilee Park in Spruce Grove

Construction underway with plans to open summer 2017

Construction of a new spray park at Jubilee Park, including a building that will house public washrooms and a change room facility, is scheduled to start in July 2017 with plans to open to the public in the summer of 2017.

Spruce Grove City Council expedited the timeline for the project so work could begin this year. The focus for 2016 is laying the foundation for the park and building, including bringing servicing to the area and completing all concrete work.

Next spring, the spray park features will be installed and the building will be finished - hopefully opening as early as next year's Canada Day Celebration.

"Adding a spray park, change rooms and a washroom facility to Jubilee Park will further enhance what is already one of our city's largest gems, while also helping us meet our spontaneous recreation needs in the community," said Spruce Grove Mayor Stuart Houston.

The spray park, which will be constructed near the existing playground on the south end of Jubilee Park, will be approximately 1,100 square metres in size, with a surrounding plaza area of approximately 140 square metres that will include seating, tables and a dry area.

It will use a re-circulating water system, making it both water and energy efficient, with activities and structures that will appeal to children of various ages. There will also be outdoor showers installed at the change room facility.

Watch for more details about the new spray park in the Fall 2016 issue of CityPulse, expected to be distributed the week of August 15.
